Dell Airstrip
The Dell Airstrip is conveniently located off Exit 23 of Interstate 15, approximately 1/2 mile West from the small town of Dell, Montana and approximately 8 miles north of Lima, Montana. The Dell Airstrip was originally built by the US Government as an auxiliary heavy bomber stopover during WWII. The Airstrip was later turned over to the State of Montana and is currently operated by Beaverhead County.
The Dell Airstrip has one runway that is 7000' long and 75' wide. The runway is also equipped with a pilot controlled, variable medium intensity nighttime lighting system. The runway has undergone 2 major pavement renovations in the last 12 years and is big and strong enough to accommodate large jet aircraft, including a Gulfstream IV and V, which have regularly used the airport in the past. In addition to the runway, other airport features include a small taxiway and ramp area, a light aircraft turf tie down area, a 55' lighted beacon tower and lighted windsock, a pilot registration desk and a small wooden "outhouse". The airport is also currently home to three private aircraft hangars and facilities.
The airstrip is unattended and use of the airstrip is open and unrestricted to the public, 24 hours a day. General maintenance and wintertime snow plowing is performed at the airport, however, snow plowing is usually not required very often in the winter and is usually done within a day of major snow events. Individuals wishing to build hangars or other facilities at the airport have the opportunity to do so. Leases up to 40 years in duration are currently available. Very reasonable lease rates are currently 5 cents per square foot, per year, and gradually increase from there.
